Head Start Early Childhood Education Program
NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
Educational Alliance Head Start programs, which include Head Start, Early Head Start, and Child Care, offer a high-quality educational experience to low-income children in 8 locations on the Lower East Side & East Village. Our staff provide children with a nurturing environment and a strong base in literacy, language development, math, science, social and emotional development, and more.
Our Head Start programs are frequently lauded by local and national funders as models for early childhood education best practices.
A few highlights:
- NAEYC accreditation – We are the only organization on Manhattan’s Lower East Side to achieve this prestigious early childhood education accreditation, which was awarded to our largest location.
- Research projects – We are 1 of only 7 Early Head Start programs in the country to be selected to participate In a groundbreaking research study by the National Center for Research in Early Childhood Education on the impact of parent intervention as it relates to a child’s achievement later in life.
- Teacher excellence – Many of our Head Start teachers are featured by national organizations, like on Teachstone’s CLASS Tool site, for their use of best practices in early childhood education and have been chosen to participate in a number of studies, including a special PBS study designed to introduce children to technology at a young age.
- NEW Mental Health Counseling Services – We are proud to give the families in our programs a helping hand with our counseling services which include: parent support groups and workshops, one-on-one counseling, and short-term play therapy for children. Learn more here.
Our Head Start programs also supplement academic learning with opportunities for children to express and develop their creativity, learn about health and wellness, and explore their community through field trips.
In addition to providing childhood with a high-quality education, Head Start expands opportunities for families in the program through social services assistance, as well as guidance and support from our staff.
