A Message from Alan van Capelle
President and CEO, Educational Alliance

Educational Alliance mourns the death of Janet Weinberg on September 1, 2018. Over the course of her life, Janet dedicated herself to improving the lives of others through her work in the fields of healthcare and social services. All who interacted with her knew the depth of her talent, kindness, and generosity.

Janet was a member of the Educational Alliance family for over four years, first as a consultant and then as Executive Vice President for Programs and Operations. Before coming to Educational Alliance, Janet spent a decade working at Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) in a variety of roles, including Interim CEO. Prior to working at GMHC, Janet served as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center; when her Board term limits were completed, she became the Director of Development. Janet began her career in healthcare as an occupational therapist, starting as a staff member and eventually running an OT unit of 1,000 therapists.

During Janet’s career, she was the recipient of numerous awards from the NYC Board of Education, local political clubs, and professional organizations honoring her many years of service in the nonprofit sector.

Janet’s expertise, strength of character, and friendship will be truly missed by her colleagues. Our deepest condolences are extended to Janet’s wife, Judge Roz Richter, and their family.

May her memory be a blessing.
