Volunteer Opportunities in NYC with our Certified Service Enterprise

Certified Service Enterprise

More Hands More Hearts is proud to announce that we have been certified as a Service Enterprise by Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service.

What Is A Service Enterprise?

A Service Enterprise is an organization that leverages volunteers and their skills throughout their organization to successfully deliver on its social mission. Implemented at Educational Alliance’s Manny Cantor Center, with this certification, Educational Alliance joins a small cohort of nonprofits committed to effectively delivering on their mission by strategically engaging volunteer time and talent. Fewer than 15% of organizations nationwide can be characterized as Service Enterprises.

What Does It Mean To Volunteer For A Service Enterprise?

One of our Employment Services volunteers, Jacob recently told us:

“I came to Manny Cantor through NY Cares as a volunteer who practiced English conversation with English Learners. When the program broke for the summer, I was looking for a way to fill my available volunteer time. I was pessimistic when Deb (More Hands More Hearts program manager) approached me to teach computer skills to the Employment Assistance area. I had had 20-30 opportunities before Manny Cantor that never had the support and organization this opportunity has proven to provide. I now provide volunteer hours to two programs with two different impacts for clients who are eager to learn and I can see the direct result of the work I am doing on the increase in their skills. I am making a difference in the lives. I debrief with staff after each training on excel, word and resume building, I am a valued member of the Manny Cantor team.”

At More Hands More Hearts, we believe that everyone has the ability to serve.  We encourage each individual to help build a stronger, more connected community by sharing their time and skills. Our volunteers are personally matched with opportunities that relate to their skills and interests and are provided with the support they need by our staff.  We completed over 20 hours of training and strategic planning with Points of Light to learn how to best integrate volunteers in our day to day operations. By achieving service enterprise standing, Manny Cantor Center has demonstrated that we are equipped to leverage the time and talent of volunteers to better meet our mission—and the goals of our volunteers.

Join Our Points of Light

Twenty-five years ago, the founder of Points of Light, President George H. W. Bush, called on “the only resource we have that in times of need always grows: the goodness and courage of the American people.” He described what he saw at work in the country as “a thousand points of light…a new engagement in the lives of others, a new activism, hands-on and involved, that gets the job done.”

Since 2015, 530 volunteers have contributed over 26,000 hours of service at Manny Cantor Center: serving meals to older adults, mentoring teens, spreading the word about our programs, teaching computer classes, helping people learn English, organizing our art studios, and greeting guests at our community events. Our volunteers form lasting bonds with Manny Cantor Center and with the people they give their time to daily.

Help us get the job done in 2019. Volunteer with Us.
